Filipche tells SDSM Congress: “Your Country – Your Chance” is the party’s moral vow

We are here today at the first Congress of the new responsibility, today we do not need a new party vocabulary, but we need a new moral vow, said SDSM leader Venko Filipche at the party’s 32nd Congress on Sunday.

In his address, Filipche pointed out that the goal of this Congress was not just to solemnly adopt a new ideological platform, but to return SDSM to the essence of social democracy.

“Today we are gathered not only to vote on a document. But to decide whether SDSM will become what it has always been intended to be: the conscience of the state, the voice of labor, the protection of the humiliated person and political courage in moments when it is most needed. Today we do not need a new party vocabulary, but we need a new moral vow,” said Filipche.

The opposition leader added that social democracy has never been just a party color, neither an election decoration, nor a word that sounds nice in a campaign. Social democracy is a deeply human idea, he adds.

“It starts from a simple but great conviction: that the state does not exist for the strong to become even stronger, but for the weak not to be left alone. That freedom without equal opportunity is a privilege. That a market without rules becomes a jungle. That profit without responsibility becomes greed. That patriotism without concern for the common man is just deception,” said SDSM’s Filipche.
