Wizz Air landed on Sunday the first flight from Wrocław, Poland, to the Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, while on Tuesday there will be another new line from Katowice, also from Poland, which means more Polish tourists, which means new opportunities for business and for the development of the local economy around the Ohrid coast, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said in Ohrid on Sunday.
Deputy PM Nikoloski stresses that domestic airports have the highest growth in the region with over 31% growth in the first five months of the year, which is expected to exceed the figure of 3.5 million passengers annually.
He thanked the excellent cooperation with TAV and the members of Parliament who have contributed to the implementation of the government’s policies for the development of air traffic and added that the new goal is for the number of passengers to exceed 4 million annually.
“We have excellent numbers, and that is that in the period January-May of this year, compared to 2025, we have a growth of 31.2%, which you cannot find at any other two airports. That is quite serious growth, and if we compare that last year we also had quite serious growth, because for the first time Macedonia passed 3 million passengers, that is an added value. Last year I said that it is good to fight in the next two to three years to reach 3.5 million passengers, but at this pace we will reach this figure this year and we will set a new goal, which is to reach 4 million passengers in a few years, which I think is a peak for our two airports, considering that the country has 1.8 million inhabitants and the number of passengers will far exceed the number of inhabitants,” said Deputy PM Nikoloski.
