A consortium led by the domestic company Granit has been selected to build the Skopje-Blace motorway. This is a signal for the entire construction sector in Macedonia and for the entire country that we can build major infrastructure projects.
The Skopje-Blace project is an exceptionally complex project. It has five tunnels, two galleries, 12 bridges, or a total of about 40 structures, which is a major engineering undertaking. I expect to build it in three and a half years, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said in a press release on Saturday.
“We are starting the construction of a new motorway. The construction of the Skopje-Blace motorway is set to begin this summer. I would like to inform the public that at today’s meeting with the director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, we were informed that the procedure for selecting a contractor for the construction of the Skopje-Blace motorway has been completed.
A consortium led by the Granit company has been selected. After a long period of time, a domestic Macedonian company will build a large infrastructure project. I believe that it is a great signal for the entire construction sector in Macedonia and a great signal for the entire country that we can build large infrastructure projects.
The Skopje-Blace project is an exceptionally complex project. We have five tunnels on it, we have two galleries, 12 bridges, or a total of about 40 facilities, including smaller facilities. It is a major engineering undertaking, a major construction undertaking. But we will prove that as a country we can work on large projects. We plan for the Contractor to complete this project within 3.5 years and at the latest 3.5 We have been working for years to have a highway connection from Skopje to Blace, that is, from Macedonia to Kosovo and Montenegro.
This Corridor is extremely important because it connects Macedonia with Kosovo and Montenegro, many passengers pass through it on a daily basis, and with the connection with Kosovo and Montenegro, another port is opened for Macedonian business, for the Macedonian economy, that is the port of Bar,” reads Deputy PM Nikoloski’s press release.
