Three Strumica loan sharks arrested for charging EUR 50 daily interest

The Strumica Police Department informs that they have solved several crimes and criminal charges have been filed against three people from Strumica and the Strumica region for usury, extortion and aggravated theft.

“The Strumica PD forwarded to the Strumica Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) criminal charges against D.K. (48) from Strumica due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the crimes of usury, extortion and aggravated theft, against L.K. (41) from Strumica due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the crimes of usury and extortion and against N.K. (25) from the village of Vasilevo, Strumica region, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the crimes of usury and extortion.

The defendants between 2022 and 2026, with the intent and intention to obtain significant material benefit for themselves, in several separate cases exploited the difficult financial situation of individuals from Strumica and beyond and lent them money, which they agreed to be returned to them with disproportionately high interest rates and unfavorable conditions, and at the same time demanded that they also return daily interest in the amount of MKD 3,000 or EUR 50 for each day of delay. L.K. and N.K. are also suspected of having used threats to force the individuals to pay them money in amounts that many times exceeded the amounts initially borrowed. While D.K. is also suspected of having taken other money from them in March 2026, after a person returned the money he owed him, he also took other money from them and thus committed the crime of aggravated theft.

In the past period, police officers from the Strumica Police Department acted on several separate cases reported by damaged persons, who borrowed money from the reported persons, and material evidence was provided that confirms the statements of the damaged persons and the suspicion of the committed crimes,” informed the Strumica Police Department in a press release Saturday.
