Macedonian Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi is set to meet with Bulgarian counterpart Mihaela Dotsova on the sidelines of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) conference in Sofia on Tuesday.
“We received an invitation from them for a bilateral meeting at which we will discuss cooperation at the parliamentary level. So far, taking into account the political situation in Bulgaria, we have not had any cooperation and communication, now we are trying to establish it,” said Speaker Gashi.
Macedonian President Siljanovska-Davkova and Bulgarian President Iotova met about ten days ago at the Summit of the Southeast European Cooperation Process, hosted by the Bulgarian President.
As reported by Siljanovska-Davkova’s office, the Bulgarian head of state said that Macedonia must fulfill the 2022French Proposal, which she herself signed, and which, as Iotova stated, “has become a pan-European position on the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to the EU.”
President Iotova stresses that these are European criteria for membership, not Bulgarian demands, so in order to start accession negotiations, Macedonia must fulfill its obligations by including Bulgarians in its Constitution.
