Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickosk,i in an interview with the national broadcaster MRT marking two years of the Government’s term, stressed that behind the provocations that have occurred in the past period is an organized Bulgarian campaign in our country, which aims to promote unacceptable things, through one or two political figures, reads the Government’s press release Friday.
“Primal urges and an organized campaign that is noticeable during this period. We are busy with reconstruction and are using the free space, one or two political figures in the country to try to promote something that no one can accept. This is a broader attempt at influence here. I have very little faith in coincidence in politics,” said Prime Minister Mickoski.
Regarding the dispute, PM Mickoski points out that if the rule that the agreement is respected applies to the Macedonian side, it should also apply to the Bulgarian side, but the eastern neighbor does not want to implement its obligations and implement the judgments of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg so as not to give legitimacy to members of the Macedonian community in Bulgaria.
“Our eastern neighbor has undertaken obligations to respect human rights, ratified a resolution, which means it should ensure the human rights of the Macedonian community by implementing these judgments of the Strasbourg Court of Human Rights. In other words, it will allow members of the Macedonian community to organize themselves, culturally, sociologically, socially. They are not doing that, because that Zhivkov-like policy that has lasted for decades, negating the Macedonian identity, instills fear in their bones, because in this way that association will have the right to have its own representative in the Council of Ministers for Minorities and will legitimize and identify itself, that is their biggest problem,” Mickoski stressed.
PM Mickoski also points out that Bulgarian politicians are not giving up on Protocols 1 and 2, which encourage the work of the historical commission until Macedonia’s entry into the European Union, and also recalled the speech of the current Bulgarian Prime Minister from 2019 in St. Petersburg, where he appropriated Cyril and Methodius and said that they would forever celebrate the San Stefano Bulgaria.
“In politics, you have to look at things strategically before you sign. When you sign, you must have a pre-text for what you are signing and anticipate possible challenges. When someone tells us to change the Constitution, fine, but what then, because we do not intend to start this race, we intend to finish it. Our goal as a government is to try to correct what has been done wrong with wisdom, tactics, and strategy,” underlined Prime Minister Mickoski.
