Macedonian Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski signed an agreement Saturday with his Albanian counterpart, Besfort Lamallari, on the establishment of a joint border controls system and joint border crossings between the two countries.
“The agreement establishes a modern and functional framework for a more efficient management of the shared border, with the goal of facilitating the movement of people and goods, promoting security, and reducing waiting time at the border crossings,” the Interior Ministry said in a press release.
Minister Toshkovski stressed that not only do joint border procedures facilitate the flow of traffic, but they also strengthen the ability of the two countries to manage cross-border crime, human trafficking, and other security risks through coordinated action and information exchange.
