Following an investigation, a public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption (PPO OCC) has filed an indictment against an individual for the criminal offense of endangering persons under international protection, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) said in a press release Wednesday.
The suspect is charged with creating a significant danger to the lives and physical safety of persons under international legal protection by starting a fire in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Skopje on June 15, 2026.
According to the actions described in the indictment, the accused had previously filled a plastic bottle with gasoline at a gas station in the immediate vicinity of the Embassy and proceeded toward the premises. Upon approaching the parked vehicles used by the military attaché of the Republic of Bulgaria and other Embassy staff, he doused them with gasoline and set them on fire, immediately fleeing the scene afterward.
Along with the indictment, the public prosecutor submitted a proposal to the court to extend the previously ordered detention, determining that the grounds for imposing and extending the measure remain valid.
