Dejan Jovanov-Deko, the primary defendant in the case concerning the fire at the Pulse nightclub in Kohani, has offered real estate valued at approximately €200,000 as a guarantee that he will not abscond if released from detention.
The Skopje Criminal Court must decide whether to accept the offered guarantee, assessing whether it. along with any potential additional precautionary measures, is sufficient to ensure Jovanov’s presence during the remainder of the court proceedings.
Jovanov’s attorney Ivana Kocevska had previously announced that Jovanov was prepared to provide a property guarantee to assure the court and the public that he had no intention of fleeing. According to the defense, the statutory one-year limit for his detention expires on October 3, following multiple extensions of the measure due to the risk of flight and the possibility of witness tampering.
Jovanov is the only defendant in the case who remains in prison detention. The other defendants are either defending themselves while at liberty subject to precautionary measures, are under house arrest, or have previously offered a guarantee. The trial involves 34 individuals and 3 legal entities.
