West Nile Virus claims ninth victim in Macedonia

A 66-year-old Kumanovo resident , who had underlying health conditions, is the latest fatality from West Nile virus in the country.

Skopje Infectious Diseases Clinic director Fadil Can told reporters that the 66-year-old patient had been hospitalized at the clinic for 28 days. He had presented with a severe clinical condition.

Cana reported that 66 patients have been hospitalized to date; currently, 11 remain at the Infectious Diseases Clinic, one of whom is in serious condition.

The most recent admission of a patient with West Nile virus to the clinic occurred on September 19.

This is the ninth person in the country to succumb to the West Nile virus.
