Macedonian Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska took part in the working session “Driving Growth in the New Economy,” organized as part of the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Meetings 2026, held in New York.
The session, attended by high-level representatives from governments, international institutions, and the business sector, addressed the challenges and opportunities presented by the new economy, with a particular focus on ensuring energy security, energy affordability, and sustainability as drivers of long-term economic growth and competitiveness.
The discussion centered on various approaches to the energy transition and how governments and businesses can strike a balance between economic growth and sustainability, as well as the role of new technologies, investments, and partnerships in economic transformation.
In this context, the need to secure adequate financing and channel investments into capital projects that contribute to enhanced energy security and sustainability was highlighted, emphasizing that such investments should simultaneously foster stable economic growth and strengthen competitiveness.
“Economies need to focus on long-term growth based exclusively on productivity. Furthermore, the discussion concluded that every economy requires greater diversification, which in turn generates higher added value. It was also noted that we need to create as many high-productivity jobs as possible; and finally, though certainly most importantly, we must continue working towards greater energy independence, sustainability, and stability in energy supplies,” said Minister Dimitrieska – Kochoska.
