Law applies to all; MoI does not act based on ethnicity, says Minister Toshkovski

It makes absolutely no difference whether the perpetrator is Macedonian, Albanian, Turk, Vlach, Roma, Serb, Bosniak, Greek, Bulgarian, or of any other ethnicity. The law applies to all. Anyone who has committed a violation and against whom there is evidence will be held accountable. Actions are never taken based on ethnicity, but rather based on the Constitution, the laws, and the factual situation supported by evidence. That is how a normal European state should function, and that is how it functions now, under this Government, Macedonian Minister of InteriorPancheToshkovskisaid in a Parliament Q&A session Thursday.

Responding to questions from MP RinaAjdari of the European Front, Toshkovski sharply criticized the opposition for focusing on ethnic issues and emphasized that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) operates exclusively in accordance with the Constitution, the laws, and the non-selective application of justice.

Asked regarding the representation of ethnic communities in the newly established secondary police school, the minister disputed the figures presented by Ajdari, clarifying that although ethnicity is not required during the application process, further analysis showed that out of 520 applicants, 31 were Albanian, and 11 of them were admitted. “The total number of applicants is 31, whereas you claim it is 100. The fact remains that 11 is too low a figure, and in the future, we must work hard to motivate all ethnic groups in Macedonia to join the secondary police school. Macedonia needs Macedonians, Albanians, Serbs, Vlachs, Turks, Roma, and Bosniaks, representatives of all ethnic groups, across all institutions, especially within the Ministry of Interior; moving forward, we must all focus on this aspect,” said Toshkovski in his response.
