New landfill early fire detection system to prevent fire spread

Macedonian Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Muamet Hoxha, the Crisis Management Center head Muhamed Ali, and Vladimir Burevski, representing the Skopje-based company Modirum Platforms, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at enhancing early fire detection and environmental protection.

The signed memorandum establishes a framework for implementing a pilot video monitoring system for landfills. Utilizing advanced cameras, intelligent video analytics, and artificial intelligence, the system will enable the timely detection of smoke, fire, and other hazards.

The Crisis Management Center (CMC) will provide 24-hour monitoring and notify the relevant authorities whenever a risk is identified, thereby facilitating faster response times and improved coordination.

Modirum Platforms, a company that leverages its technology and expertise to support initiatives regarding environmental protection, risk prevention, and public safety, will provide the system’s equipment for temporary use over a one-year period as part of its support for initiatives of public interest. Through this pilot project, the MoEPP is advancing the use of modern digital technologies in environmental protection, focusing on prevention, early warning, and more efficient response.

The results of the pilot phase will serve as a basis for considering the possibility of expanding the system nationwide.
