We are disappointed with the decision of Bulgaria not to support the adoption of the Negotiation Framework for Macedonia, which is not in accordance with the Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation Treaty of 2017, the Government briefed after meeting no agreement was reached at the COREPER meeting for the adoption of the negotiating framework for the start of accession talks due to the opposition of the Bulgarian ambassador.

“We remain committed to the Treaty and we are convinced that it is an excellent framework for managing bilateral issues and offers mechanisms for overcoming problems. In that regard, we are ready to provide clarifications in order to remove the concerns that have arisen in the Republic of Bulgaria,” the government said after the EU ambassadors’ meeting in Brussels did not bring progress in Bulgaria’s position on adopting the negotiating framework with Macedonia.
