The Macedonian Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) informed via its official Facebook page that as of August 3, 2026, Bulgaria has introduced strengthened official controls on the import of consignments of fresh fruit and vegetables – tomatoes, peppers, peaches and watermelons – through the border checkpoints Gjueshevo (Deve Bair) and Zlatarevo (Novo Selo).
The measure applies to consignments originating from third countries, including Macedonia, which are intended for the Bulgarian market.
“Operators who export or transport this category of products to the Republic of Bulgaria through the checkpoints at the indicated border crossings, when planning and implementing the placement of shipments, should take into account the introduced enhanced official controls. The Food and Veterinary Agency will monitor the situation and will promptly inform operators of all information of importance for the smooth conduct of trade and meeting legal requirements,” the FVA said after receiving a notification from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.
