Although a request for urgent protection of the building was submitted, the demolition of an old century-old house on Dimitar Vlahov Street in Ohrid has begun Sunday morning.
The house is part of the architectural heritage with its unique appearance. It is speculated that a building will be built on the site.
“Ohrid is rapidly losing its architectural heritage from the past, unique buildings have been demolished in recent years, and a large number are in danger of demolition or decay. It seems that the Institute for the Protection of Monuments in Ohrid and the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Heritage are doing nothing to prevent this negative trend. We ask them, before it is too late, to stop construction work on this location and to preserve this unique building from the recent history of Ohrid,” the Ohrid SOS civil initiative warned.
