Civil Engineering Professor Josifovski demands re-evaluation of all construction procedures

Insufficient attention is paid to construction work, especially in densely built-up urban areas, such as the center of Skopje. All procedures need to be re-evaluated for what needs to be fulfilled before construction can begin. There is no obligation in the legal regulations for the performance of a project for the protection of construction pits, and this is precisely where all the problems like these arise in the past two or three months, said the Faculty of Civil Engineering Dean, Josif Josifovski

Insufficient attention is paid to construction work, especially in densely built-up urban areas, such as the center of Skopje. All procedures need to be re-evaluated for what needs to be fulfilled before construction can begin. There is no obligation in the legal regulations for the performance of a project for the protection of construction pits, and this is precisely where all the problems like these arise in the past two or three months, said the Faculty of Civil Engineering Dean, Josif Josifovski.

As the professor assessed, all institutions in their domain should do what is necessary.

“In one of the previous events, we also had human victims, that is, human loss, which is the most terrible thing that can happen. I think we need to wake up, all institutions in their domain need to do what is necessary, and we, as the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the faculty, are here to give our observations and instructions – what needs to be done so that such situations do not repeat in the future,” Josifovski noted.

The professor informed that the Municipality of Centar has already submitted a letter to the Faculty of Civil Engineering requesting advice on repairing the landslide in the center of Skopje. A crisis meeting was held and expert recommendations were given. The most important thing, Josif Josifovski noted, is to fill in the construction pit and return it to its original state, and then seek solutions, which both the mayor and the investor agreed on.
