A judge in a preliminary procedure at the Skopje Basic Criminal Court, following the statement of suspect Artan Grubi, who was brought to court Monday evening, issued a decision accepting the proposal of the public prosecutor and the defense to order house arrest, with additional measures to ensure presence, the Court said in a press release.
“After this morning the Skopje Prison informed the court that the suspect A.G. had been taken to the institution where he began serving the detention measure, determined by a decision of 17.12.2024, and which comes into force from the moment he was found, that is, deprived of his liberty, the court informed the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) of the same and, at their request, issued an order to escort the suspect before a public prosecutor for his questioning. At the same time, during the day, the suspect’s defense submitted to the court a proposal to replace the detention measure with house arrest, which proposal has been forwarded to the competent public prosecutor’s office, so that it can make a decision on it,” the Criminal Court said.
Given the fact that the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) is conducting the investigation and, in accordance with its legal authority, assesses which measure is appropriate and sufficient for the smooth conduct of the investigation, the prosecution submitted a positive opinion to the court in writing, and at the hearing itself, the public prosecutor proposed the determination of a milder security measure than the previously determined one, the statement adds.
“Based on all of this, the court heard the suspect in the presence of his defense attorney and issued a decision to replace the detention measure with a house arrest measure with 24-hour surveillance, which is entrusted to the Ministry of Interior. Additionally, a precautionary measure was determined – confiscation of the travel document and a ban on issuing another document for crossing the state border,” said the Court.
Both sides have the right to appeal against this decision before the Criminal Council.
