The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) becomes fully operational by registering all nationals crossing EU’s external border crossing points, including land borders, ports or airports.

The system, which began to be partially implemented on October 12 last year, introduces a new, digitalized way of recording and controlling citizens traveling for short-term stays from non-EU countries at the EU’s external borders.

The Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) assures that all available resources have been put into operation for a fast and smooth flow of passengers at our border crossings.

With the full introduction of the EES system, entries and exits will be recorded electronically, and the system will enable the processing of basic biometric data (fingerprints and photo). The goal is faster identification and more efficient monitoring of the permitted stay in accordance with the 90-day rule in a period of 180 days, which would increase the time spent at border crossings for entry into the EU.

According to the MoI, the country’s border police have taken all necessary measures and activities, i.e. all available material, technical and human resources have been put into operation, in order to ensure a fast and uninterrupted flow of passengers at our border crossings.

“The border police will act with increased engagement in the field, will continuously monitor the situation, will take appropriate measures to maintain the flow of traffic and will inform citizens of all important information related to the application of the system,” the Ministry of Interior informed Saturday.
