The ruling VMRO-DPMNE has issued a harsh statement attacking SDSM leader Venko Filipche, accusing him of “running into the arms” of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Rumen Radev and of being ready for “a new series of national betrayals.”
The ruling party says that Filipche “cannot wait a single week” to announce the continuation of, as VMRO-DPMNE calls it ”the legacy left to him by Zaev,” alluding to the constitutional amendments and relations with Bulgaria.
“He publicly says that his own country has been creating artificial conflicts with its neighbors,” VMRO-DPMNE said in Sunday’s press release, adding that Sofia’s official positions are known and that Filipce is “running to sell himself” to Radev.
The release added that the SDSM leader was trying to relativize national issues.
“Filipche says that in the ‘90s, national issues were discussed, but now they are not important, and in this way he is trying to relativize Macedonian identity and national interests,” said VMRO-DPMNE.
The ruling party accuses SDSM of trying to convince citizens through its announcements of a new program that “identity and national interests are not important,” and Filipche, according to the party, “is behaving as if he were a spokesman for Bulgarian demands.”
The release also mentions Filipche’s private trips, as well as his activities while in opposition.
“Venko Filipche was involved in everything except SDS,” VMRO-DPMNE said, adding that he took a trip to Rome and went on summer vacation on Zaev’s yachts in Greece.
The ruling party believes that Filipche is focused solely on coming to power.
“All he cares about is his leader’s post and coming to power to continue his plan to destroy the country,” reads the party’s reaction.
VMRO-DPMNE also criticizes SDSM’s policy in opposition, assessing that the party is “not constructive in any aspect” and that after two election defeats it “has not yet learned its lesson.”
The ruling party concludes its statement saying that citizens will once again punish SDSM in elections.
