The police have arrested 18-year-old Skopje resident Sait Saitov, wanted on an international arrest warrant issued by the Macedonian Ministry of Interior, in Belgrade, Serbia Wednesday night.

On the morning of January 9, Saitov was driving at high speed on Naroden Front Street in Skopje’s Kapishtec when he ran over 79-year-old Ljuba Jakovleva, who died shortly after at the Skopje Clinical Center.

Saitov then fled with his father to neighboring Serbia with the help of a couple – their relatives. Immediately after the traffic accident on January 9, the couple came to Saitov’s home. They took him and his father and took them to Serbia through the Tabanovce border crossing. They left them there and returned to Macedonia around midnight.

The Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) was notified of the arrest Wednesday by the Serbian Ministry of Interior.

Saitov has been ordered into extradition detention and a procedure is underway between the Ministries of Justice of the two countries, with the aim of his extradition to Macedonia and bringing him to justice and his appropriate sanctioning, the Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) has informed.
