The Macedonian Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, along with NOMAGAS and the Greek gas transmission system operator DESFA, have agreed on the next steps for the implementation of the gas pipeline interconnector between Macedonia and Greece – one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects for the country and the region.

The meetings confirmed the joint assessment that the gas pipeline interconnector will be completed next year, in line with the established deadlines and implementation plans.

At the meeting between Macedonian Energy Minister Bozhinovska and DESFA CEO Maria Sferruzza special emphasis was placed on the regional initiative ‘Vertical Gas Corridor’, which represents a significant opportunity for improving energy connectivity, strengthening security of supply and integrating national markets into broader European energy flows.

“The gas pipeline interconnector with Greece is a strategic project that directly strengthens the country’s energy security and opens up new opportunities for diversification of supply. Our goal is for Macedonia to provide stable access to various sources and routes of energy, and such infrastructure connections are key to greater independence, competitiveness and resilience of the energy system,” said Minister Sanja Bozhinovska.

The gas pipeline interconnector with Greece is a key investment in Macedonia’s energy future. With its implementation, the country will provide access to new sources of natural gas, strengthen its own energy security and advance its positioning in the regional and European energy infrastructure.
