The Health Insurance Fund of Macedonia (HIF) has decided to reduce the reference prices of HPV genotyping and liquid PAP cytology, which will allow a larger number of women to be covered by preventive examinations for early detection of cervical cancer.
According to the Fund, the measure is already in force and aims to improve the availability of modern diagnostic services, while reducing the costs paid by insured persons.
The reference price of HPV genotyping has been reduced from MKD 5,500 to MKD 3,310, which represents a decrease of 39.8 percent. At the same time, the participation paid by the patient is reduced fromMKD 550 to MKD 350.
For liquid PAP cytology, the reference price has been reduced from MKD 2,200 to MKD 1,250, or 43.2 percent, while the co-payment has been reduced from MKD 250 to MKD 150. The conventional PAP test remains at an unchanged price ofMKD 600.
The HIF indicates that the price revision was made based on the analysis of invoiced services during 2025. According to calculations, with the same level of funding, the number of available tests could be significantly increased.
Thus, the number of HPV tests per year would increase from 13,466 to 22,375, which is an increase of 66.2 percent or an additional 8,909 tests. For liquid PAP cytology, the number of tests would increase from 2,427 to 4,271 per year, which is an increase of 76 percent.
