Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski is satisfied with the implementation of the Ohrid-Kichevo motorway and expects that the promise will be kept – in the first quarter of 2027 this road route will be fully put into operation.

According to Nikoloski, the construction of the Kichevo-Bukojcani motorway, about 12 kilometers long, which should connect Straza with the Ohrid-Struga-Kichevo motorway, is expected to be announced in September.

“Regarding the most difficult section of the Ohrid – Kichevo motorway, from Izvor to Vrbjani, two galleries are fully completed, the third is at 70 percent completion, and the fourth at about 50 percent. Software, traffic monitoring and early fire warning signals, ventilation systems, as well as a state-of-the-art control center are being installed in the tunnels. I expect this most difficult section of the motorway to be put into operation in October. Then, the section near Botun will still have to be resolved and, as we promised, the motorway will be fully put into operation in the first quarter of 2027. But we are not stopping here, the Tetovo – Gostivar and Gostivar – Bukojchani roads areunder construction. I expect good news from the EBRD and in September we will announce the construction of another 12-kilometer motorway, Kichevo – Bukojchani, which should connect Strazha with the Ohrid – Struga – Kichevo motorwat,” Deputy PM Nikoloski said in response to a reporter’s question after his working visit to Struga and meeting with Struga Mayor Mendi Qura.
