The PE Railways – Infrastructure director Sinisha Ivanovski said in a social media post that the last tunnel out of a total of 15 for the Beljakovce-Kriva Palanka railway has been broken through.

Ivanovski says that he expects the works on the future railway to accelerate.

“This morning we broke through the last tunnel out of a total of 15 from the second part of the construction of the railway to Bulgaria (Beljakovce – Kriva Palanka). Breaking through the tunnels is considered one of the more specific construction activities. The current progress by the contractor is still not according to expectations, but I can announce that the most specific segments of the project are slowly being overcome and I expect months of more serious operational activity and visible progress,” wrote the PE Railways – Infrastructure head in his post.

“Corridor VIII is of strategic importance for Macedonia and NATO, and as such, serious work is underway on its construction and connection of the Adriatic Sea with the Black Sea,” Ivanovski noted.
