I am calling on the opposition’s economic team to a meeting at the Ministry of Finance. Let’s sit down and explain things properly, because these days we are seeing hysterical press conferences, full of untruths, misinterpretations and extremely desperate political constructions, Macedonian Finance Minister GordanaDimitrieska-Kochoska said on Sunday.
Reacting to SDSM leaderVenkoFilipche’s press conference, but also to other party press conferences, she said that the economy should not be talked about in a panic, but rather look at the numbers.
“And it is precisely with the numbers that the opposition does not stand very well,”said the Minister of Finance.
“For the last two years, we have not been building a state from scratch. We are stabilizing the state that you left with an empty coffers, accumulated debts, broken trust, and institutions that were used for too long for narrow party and personal interests. Let me remind you:
–In June 2024, the state treasury was left in an extremely difficult situation.
–From 2017 to 2024, the average GDP growth was around 1.8%, the weakest pace of development in the region.
–In 2017, the public debt amounted to EUR 4.78 billion, and by the second quarter of 2024 it reached almost EUR 9 billion.
That is practically a doubling of the public debt during the SDSM rule. Instead of development, citizens received indebtedness, inflation, uncertainty, and lost economic opportunities,” the minister said.
Dimitrieska-Kochoskasays that the VMRO-DPMNE-led Government has made an improvement.
