Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport AleksandarNikoloski and Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević met during the Transport Investment Summit in Thessaloniki to discuss how working together on shared infrastructure projects can boost economic growth and connect the region, the Ministry of Transport said in press release.
The two transport ministers focused on the Corridor X high-speed railway, highlighting its importance as one of the most critical infrastructure projects for regional development.
The Deputy PM stressed that Macedonia is working hard to complete the project, which will make rail travel faster, safer and more efficient, the release said.The ministers also discussed the construction a shared border railway station in Tabanovce to speed up passenger and freight travel between the two countries.
According to Nikoloski, a contractor has been chosen for the Tabanovce station and construction will begin soon. Meeting participants also talked about boosting trade, strengthening economic ties and making regional transport routes more efficient.
“The discussion included establishing and expanding the green lanes system at border crossings, to speed up shipping and cut down on border delays,” reads the press release.
The ministers discussed energy connections, as well. Deputy PMNikoloski said a tender bid procedure was underway to build a gas pipeline between the two countries, which he said would improve energy security, diversify supply options and lower natural gas prices.
