Only Bulgaria’s special MP and leader of the opposition SDSM, Venko Filipche, blindly believes Rumen Radev when the Bulgarian Prime Minister says that the constitutional amendments are the last obstacle to Macedonia joining the European Union, VMRO-DPMNE spokesperson Valentin Manasievski told a press briefing Tuesday.

According to the ruling party representative, it is clear to the entire domestic public that the constitutional amendments to include Bulgarians in the Constitution are only the first of many steps that the Bulgarian authorities have taken towards Macedonia, and they relate to the Macedonian language, history, culture and identity.

“This is not what we as VMRO-DPMNE are saying, but what the current Prime Minister of Bulgaria is saying. In a 2019 video, which is again trending on social media, Rumen Radev, as the then President of Bulgaria, in front of a large audience at a conference in Russia attended by Vladimir Putin, speaks about Macedonian history, but in a Bulgarian context. In his address, Rumen Radev says that Goce Delchev is Bulgarian and that literacy came from Bulgaria, not from Macedonia, while the Macedonian authorities at the time led by Zoran Zaev and Venko Filipche did not condemn Rumen Radev’s specific speech,” said spokesperson Manasievski.
