One of the leading Macedonian baritones, Riste Velkov, is among four people killed in a traffic accident that happened late on Thursday on the Skopje ring road.
“Thursday night at 11 pm, the Skopje Police Department received a report that on the Skopje bypass, between the Vizbegovo overpass and the Mirkovci interchange, B.B. (76) from Kosovo, driving a truck – a Man tractor with a semi-trailer with Kosovo national registration plates, lost control of the vehicle and drove it over the metal fence in the opposite direction of the motorway, colliding with a BMW passenger vehicle with Skopje license plates, driven by R.V. (51) from Skopje.
The collision caused a fire in both vehicles, from which the passenger vehicle and the tractor cabin were completely burned. The fire was extinguished by a team from the Skopje Fire Brigade.
“Driver R.V. and the passengers of his vehicle, A.V. (20), P.M. (20) and M.G. (20), all from Skopje, died from their injuries at the scene of the accident. An emergency medical doctor confirmed death, and by order of the public prosecutor, the bodies of the deceased were sent for autopsy,” the Ministry of Interior (moI) informed.
By order of the public prosecutor, truck driver B.B. has been arrested and is being held at a police station.
