The Government is preparing a consumption portfolio in coordination with electricity supplier EVN Home and state-owned electricity producer ESM, with the goal of securing electricity prices that would be 5 to 10 percent lower on average than current levels. A joint working meeting is expected to be held this week or next, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Monday in Vinica while answering media questions about renewable energy projects and their potential impact on electricity prices.
This week or next, EVN Home and ESM will have a joint working meeting.
“We are now practically preparing all the indicators so that they can announce the announcement at the end of the year and already next year we can ensure, perhaps one of the rare cases in Europe, if not the only one, where citizens would receive up to 5%, and maybe more, lower electricity prices. That will be something that has not happened before – to take advantage of renewable energy sources, that is the Sun, and in that mix throughout the year to ensure an average price of electricity which, here, I am a moderate optimist, would be 5 to 10% cheaper than the current one. But let’s see how we will operationalize all of that,” said Mickoski.
The Prime Minister underlines that the Government’s goal is for the country to be a net exporter of electricity for the first time at the end of this year and he believes that this will be achieved.
