As a country we are coping with fires the best, taking into account the fact that everything that happened this summer with fires in other countries such as France, Spain, neighboring Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Turkey and neighboring Serbia, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday during a visit to Prilep.

“In June 2024, all three aircraft or known to the public as air tractors were grounded without proper repairs being made on time. This year, the repairs of these three aircraft were made and completed and they were on the runway in May this year. So they were fully prepared to intervene where there is a crisis,” said Mickoski.

The PM recalled that last year, along with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Protection and Rescue Directorate, the Crisis Management Center and several other institutions, they converted military vehicles into firefighting vehicles.

The PM pointed out that 300 volunteers were employed this year within the Protection and Rescue Directorate with a fixed-term contract as part of the project, and their engagement is regulated by the Protection and Rescue Directorate, something that, as Mickoski pointed out, has never been done before.

“If this year is compared to what was happening in Europe, the fires that were in France, in Spain, in neighboring Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Turkey, neighboring Serbia, what is happening recently, I believe that we as a country have handled it the best so far,” PM Mickoski pointed out.
