The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) has initiated an investigation on the basis of allegations from the released files in the Jeffrey Epstein case, regarding brain samples of deceased persons from the country that were allegedly transported for scientific research purposes to the United States of America.
As stated in the press release, “taking into account the nature of the allegations, which include the processing, freezing and international transport of human tissues, as well as possible issues regarding compliance with legal and ethical standards for experiments with human tissues and samples”, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched a case to examine all indications of a criminal offense that is prosecuted ex officio.
The case has been submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption (PPO OCC), which is supposed to collect official information from the competent authorities, institutions and healthcare institutions, to determine possible illegal handling of human tissues and biomaterials, omissions or abuses in obtaining permits and consents.
