We are starting a serious project for the reconstruction, upgrade and modernization of the Ohrid airport St. Paul the Apostle, which should bring 4,500 square meters of functional space, which is 2,500 square meters more than the existing space. This is the first reconstruction and upgrade of this scale after the construction of this airport, said Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski, who, along with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and TAV General Manager Nejat Kurt, marked the beginning of construction works.
The Deputy PM noted in his speech that this is a significant investment at a time when the Government, with its policies, is seriously developing air traffic by introducing 24 new airlines, carrying over 3.3 million passengers and major infrastructure projects around the airport.
“We have 24 new destinations from Skopje and Ohrid airports since this Government was elected and the second one, for me it is just as important that destinations are already starting to open without subsidies, which means that politics does not bring us to a situation where airlines open destinations without seeking subsidies. So that speaks volumes about the development of air traffic, and the best proof of that is that last year only Skopje airport passed with 3 million passengers, a total of somewhere over 3 million and 350 thousand. This year I expect over 3.5 million at both airports, and next year we will target over 4 million passengers at both airports, which will mean a lot, a lot for the entire country,” Deputy PM Nikoloski underlined.
