The Safe City system registered a total of 4,910 violations in the areas of cities and main corridors where the cameras are installed, the Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Monday.

Exceeding the maximum permitted speed is prevalent – as many as 4,691 drivers were recorded driving too fast. In addition, 203 cases involved driving with an invalid license.

What is particularly significant is the drastic decrease in the number of violations for running red lights. Last week, only 16 such violations were registered, which is a decrease of 51.5 percent compared to the previous week, when 33 cases were recorded. This drop is even more impressive if we take into account the first week of the month, when the system recorded as many as 163 violations of a closed signal.

Within the speeding sanctions, 75 bans relate to driving at a speed exceeding 80 km/h in a built-up area, 19 bans for speed exceeding 10 km/h (according to specific legal categories), while seven drivers were sanctioned for extremely fast driving of over 170 km/h in a non-built-up area.
