The opposition Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) has accused VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski of hiring a foreign private intelligence company to keep track on the opposition and, as SDSM says, fabricate scandals.
The press release states the ruling party hired the Israeli private intelligence company Black Cube, which SDSM describes as a “private Mossad”, known for “surveillance, gathering information, provocations and fabricating scandals against political goals”.
“Mickoski and his group hired this company to monitor SDSM officials, especially party leader Venko Filipche,” reads the press release.
SDSM claims that a Black Cube team recently stayed in Skopje and held meetings in a hotel, which, as they point out, was also attended by a businessman close to VMRO-DPMNE, who was supposed to finance the task.
The press release also draws a comparison with Hungary, stating that such methods were previously used by PM Viktor Orbán, and mentions alleged activities related to elections in other countries.
“This is no coincidence. This is a classic autocratic model: when legal instruments do not function, private intelligence agencies are engaged to create fake stories and intimidate the opposition,” SDSM added.
