The Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO), instead of being an independent institution, acted as the party headquarters of the ruling SDS. Zoran Zaev and people close to him gave directions and guidelines on which case would be worked on, where it would be assigned and who should be indicted, VMRO-DPMNE said on Thursday.
“Former SPO prosecutor Lejla Kadriu claims that four of Zaev’s lawyers put pressure on prosecutors in the “Coup” case. Four lawyers representing Zoran Zaev came to the SPO to convince prosecutors to release people from detention in the “Coup” case. They were persuaded to give a positive opinion so that the case could be taken over by the Public Prosecutor’s Office OCC, so that the case could be processed by the SPO. The same case was then brought to the SPO, packed in boxes and protective foil. This case was supposed to be processed by Lenche Ristoska and Lile Stefanovska. The case was pushed back, and the prosecutors did not go to the hearing, which according to prosecutor Kadriu, if that case were found today, it would still be with protective foil, neither opened nor reviewed. Kadriu claims that the case was transferred and kept without any substantive procedure, which raises doubts about its actual processing. Kadriu also points out that at least two other cases, including the cases related to Gordana Jankuloska and the Neshkovski case, were politically motivated and used to achieve certain political goals. Due to the seriousness of the allegations, it is necessary for the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) to thoroughly and impartially investigate all allegations, in order for the truth to come to light and possible accountability to be determined,” the ruling VMRO-DPMNE pointed out.
