The Association of Employees in the Gaming Sector “I Want to Work” (“Sakam da rabotam”) held a warning protest today, due to the Draft Law on Gaming, which threatens 10,000 jobs.
Association representative OliveraKostova said that those who prepared the law did not consider it necessary to hear their opinion and experience before proposing it.
“You are probably wondering why the protest is here in the Leptokarija shopping center? This very location is confirmation that the Government’s proposal for a distance of 500 meters is a proposal to close legal gambling facilities. Therefore, we employees of these facilities are protesting here for half an hour as a first warning of what is to come. If the Government’s proposal is adopted, 10,000 employees in this sector will remain on the streets, and that means that together with our families we will become 35,000 new candidates for emigration from the country. It is a social bomb,” Kostova said at the protest.
The representative added that “if the authorities continue to think they can ignore them, they are ready to organize mass protests.”
The new bill on gambling proposes stricter rules: facilities at least 500 meters from schools, restrictions on advertising, etc.
