Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski inspected the construction work on the Macedonia Boulevard Saturday evening, which will give Skopje its first underground road.
Gjorgjievski says in a social media post that the work is progressing at an accelerated pace, with dozens of trucks and construction machines on the ground, even in the evening hours, when traffic is reduced and no additional congestion is created.
“Although the third phase, the underground road has already been built, its full commissioning is possible only with the implementation of all phases. Within this stage, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing roadway is being carried out, as well as the expansion of individual road lanes in order to significantly improve the flow and functionality of traffic. The project includes Boris Trajkovski Boulevard (at Rampa), 11 Oktomvri and Prolet streets, as well as a section from Macedonia Boulevard to the junction of Boris Trajkovski Boulevard, from where it continues to the next phase,” said Gjorgjievski.
The mayor adds that it is planned to widen Prolet street with an additional lane. The intersection on this stretch, as he says, for safety reasons, will be arranged with two islands in the shape of a triangle and three in the shape of a teardrop, which will significantly increase the safety of all traffic participants.
