The Macedonian handball team will play against the Slovakian handball team in the play-off for the 2027 World Handball Championship, after the Slovaks eliminated Ukraine in a dramatic two-legged tie.

Although Ukraine won 32-31 in the second leg, Slovakia secured qualification thanks to a 27-24 victory in the first leg. The Ukrainians had a great chance to turn the tables, having led by six goals throughout the match, and at halftime they were convincingly 20-15.
However, a turnaround came in the second half. Slovakia gradually closed the gap, took the lead, and despite the minimal defeat in the second leg, the overall score was on their side.

Now, the Macedonian handball players face the last obstacle to qualifying for the major competition. The first leg will be played on May 13 or 14 in Bratislava, while the return leg is scheduled for May 17 in Skopje.
