The Macedonian State Market Inspectorate (SMI) has forwarded the report of the inspections carried out to the Ministry of Economy, which will determine whether there will be new measures against price increases after Easter, such as reducing VAT and limiting the profit margin of retailers. The Market Inspectorate confirmed to TV Telma that the report was sent to the ministry’s address last week, which should process the data and send it to the Government, which will consider it at the next session on Tuesday.
The SMI says that over 140 inspections have been carried out and over 800 retail outlets have been covered. Inspections have been carried out on manufacturers, importers, distributors and local larger markets and market chains. Prices of basic food products, personal hygiene products, cleaning products, as well as baby and baby food and other children’s products were checked.
The report was prepared at the request of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and based on it, it will be known whether there is a difference in the prices of basic food products, that is, whether and how much they increased in price at the beginning of April, compared to February 2026.
