In an action by customs officers at the Bogorodica border crossing, during the control of a freight motor vehicle declared for transit, 5,000 cartons of cigarettes worth MKD 9 million were discovered and seized. The driver of the truck, a Serbian national, who tried to smuggle the cigarettes, was detained and criminal charges were filed against him with the Gevgelija Public Prosecutor’s Office for smuggling.
The truck declared for transit from Greece to Serbia, according to the attached documentation, was transporting construction materials – rock wool. During the detailed control, customs officers discovered 100 unmarked boxes with 50 cartons of cigarettes each, i.e. a total of 5,000 cartons of cigarettes without excise stamps, which were not declared.
