The Ohrid Lake Police discovered four kilometers of illegally placed nets for fishing Wednesday in Lake Ohrid, near the Struga villages of Kalista and Radozhda.
The police seized the so-called hanging nets, which are otherwise strictly prohibited for fishing, and also seized about 116.9 kilograms of fish.
“In an action control of the Ohrid Lake Border Surveillance Police Station, several fishing nets and a larger quantity of caught fish were found.
On September 1, 2026, action controls were carried out related to illegal fishing, as well as the discovery of fishing nets and other fishing tools and equipment.
In addition, on the stretch between the Struga villages of Kalista and Radozhda, twenty so-called hanging fishing nets were found, which are strictly prohibited for fishing, with a total length of about 4,000 meters with a catch of 872 pieces of fish – Ohrid Belvica and a total weight of 116.9 kilograms.
Following the instructions of the public prosecutor, police officers from the Lake Police and the Regional Center for Border Affairs West lifted the fishing nets along with the catch from the lake, after which the competent fisheries inspectorate was notified, according to the information to the public of the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The police statement does not reveal whether a suspect was arrested with the confiscated nets and fish.
