Macedonians thinner than Europeans –16.3% obese people in EU, 15.4% in Macedonia

The latest Eurostat data for Macedonia is from 2022 and says that 15.4% of Macedonian citizens were obese

A total of 16.3% of people in the European Union over the age of 18 were obese in the European Union, meaning they had a body mass index of 30 or higher. An additional 35.4% had a body mass index between 25 and 30. Overall, more than half of the EU population was overweight, according to Eurostat data.

Men in the EU are larger than women. The obesity rate for men is 17.4%, and for women 15.3%. Additionally, 41.9% of men were overweight, compared to 29.3% of women.

The highest number of obese people is in Malta, where more than a quarter of the population is overweight. This is followed by Lithuania (24.6%) and Finland (23.2%). The least obese people are in Italy (7.0%), Greece (12.8%) and Romania (12.9%).
