A public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption (PPO OCC), acting on a criminal complaint filed by the Corruption Unit at the Bureau of Public Security, issued an order to conduct an investigative procedure against a person employed in the Service for General and Common Affairs of the Government of the Republic of N. Macedonia. There is a reasonable suspicion that the suspect committed a criminal offense – receiving a reward for unlawful influence.

“The procedure was initiated following a report from a citizen from whom the suspect, in the period from July 24 to September 4, 2026, asked for 1,500 euros to use his presumed influence. The suspect, who worked as a driver for a high-ranking government official, promised the injured party that he would mediate with officials in the City of Skopje regarding employment after an announcement for the recruitment of firefighters,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The statement notes that, after the report, the competent authorities, in coordination with the prosecutor in question, took action to secure evidence. On September 4, 2026, the suspect was caught handing over 500 euros as part of the requested reward of EUR 1,500, which had previously been marked.

The pre-trial judge accepted the prosecutor’s proposal and, by decision, ordered the suspect to be detained for 30 days, adds the PPO.
