In an interview with 4TV on Tuesday evening, former Karposh Municipality Mayor from the ranks of SDSM Andrej Petrov noted that the figure of 125,000 votes secured by SDSM would have been unthinkable 15 years ago and that changes must be initiated by those who have been part of the party for years. He pointed out that this is what gave rise to the initiative for the platform.
“The low level of the local election result was shocking to me; had someone told me 15 years ago that SDSM might receive 125,000 votes, I would have laughed, I would have thought it was a joke. Society demands that all forces mobilize; if we, who have been part of SDSM for generations and decades, do not do it, who else would be expected to? We are firmly convinced that by joining forces we can bring about change, which is why we initiated a discussion, a platform, that was not directed against anyone,” said Petrov,
“A cataclysm is clearly looming; in all polls, SDSM is at 7.5% or 8%. The sooner change occurs, the better the chances for SDSM to recover—and for a sound SDSM leadership to rally a strong opposition around itself by engaging with everyone,” he added,
Petrov pointed out that SDSM had never been characterized by crude or undignified rhetoric, criticizing the remark describing people who had shouldered the party’s burden for over 20 years as “a bunch of schizophrenics who joined forces.”
