New academic year begins for nearly 14,000 first-year university students

There are around 20 universities in Macedonia, with approximately 53,500 students pursuing undergraduate studies annually. Of these, 46,925 are full-time students, while about 6,600 are part-time. Approximately 13,800 are new first-year students, that is, students enrolling in their first year for the first time.

At Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM), the inaugural academic session was held on the university’s central plaza; similar inaugural sessions are also taking place at StClement of Ohrid University in Bitola, GoceDelchev University in Shtip, the State University of Tetovo, Mother Teresa University in Skopje, and St. Paul the Apostle University in Ohrid.

Under UKIM’s enrollment call, a total of 8,851 first-year students have enrolled across its 23 constituent faculties for the new academic year. Currently, over 26,000 students are studying at this university; more than 23,400 are enrolled in undergraduate programs, while the remainder are pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees. UKIM offers 242 study programs in the first cycle (undergraduate), 313 in the second cycle (Master’s), and 99 in the third cycle (Doctoral). Starting this academic year, UKIM also has new leadership headed by Rector BiljanaAngelova, who is continuing in the role, having secured a new three-year term (September 15, 2026 – September 15, 2029) in the May elections.
