Former Albanian President and current leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, who is in prison custody, expressed great gratitude in an interview to the Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski, for his stance on his violent arrest and the political accusations against him.

“I sincerely thank the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Mr. Nikoloski, for his solidarity. Let’s not forget that VMRO-DPMNE knows like no other the “special” justice of Soros led by Katica Janeva, who ended up in prison for corruption. No party has been politically persecuted by the Soros-like justice as VMRO. But they showed character and integrity and here they are today,” Meta said.

They understand my case very well, because they know how Soros-like justice works, Meta added.

“On this occasion, I wish for Macedonia to walk on the path of stability and development, but also of interethnic harmony, respecting the Ohrid Framework Agreement, for which we worked so hard during the time when I had the responsibility of being the Prime Minister of Albania,” said Meta.

He also thanked the Macedonian Government.

“I want to thank the Government of Macedonia for keeping its crossings open for our citizens from Korça and Pogradec to Peshkopi to buy cheaper fuel, cheaper food and cheaper medicines,” said Meta.

Meta, who was the head of the Albanian country from July 2017 to July 2022, was arrested on October 21, 2024, and has been in custody since then. He is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, which he categorically denies and considers political persecution. The first hearing of the trial is scheduled for April 27.
Macedonia’s Deputy PM Aleksandar Nikoloski recently called Ilir Meta a victim of criminal and politically motivated actions.
