Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski says that the Government is considering new measures to stabilize food prices, including the possibility of reducing the value-added tax from 5 to 0 percent for certain seasonal products.
“The measures that we would possibly take are for seasonal products, which have already doubled in price in a week. Depending on how they move, we will act accordingly,” said PM Mickoski.
He stresses that the Government has already sent a message to retailers not to increase margins, but to reduce them, in order to increase sales volume.
PM Mickoski added that the crisis situation has been prolonged and assessed that the country is “by far the best one coping in the region”, pointing out that the measures to reduce VAT, which were previously criticized, are now also recommended at the European level.
