Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has said it was common for the budget revision procedure to start this time of the year, noting the government has been successfully managing the crisis because “inflation has been halved compared to the former government’s term.”
“It is usual for the procedures for budget revision to begin in June and for it to be adopted in July. This was the case in 2024 and 2025, and by the end of the year we will have another final distribution of funds for the Budget in November, this is the usual procedure that is ongoing,” PM Mickoski said today in response to a reporter’s question.
Asked about inflation projections, Mickoski pointed out that comparable things should be compared and that “now there is half as low inflation as during the previous government’s term”, as he noted, “even in such challenging conditions”.
“Inflation is increasing everywhere in the world, but what is important for us is that if we compare today’s situation with the situation in 2022, during the same period when the crises occurred – the months of March, April and May, you will notice that it was twice as high then as it is now, and that is the success of crisis management and crisis management. If it were twice as high now as it was then, then we would say that this government has failed. We have to compare comparable things. If we compare March, April and May 2022 with March, April and May 2026, all relevant experts will tell you that this energy crisis is greater than the one in 2022 and the two energy crises of the 1970s combined. However, as a government, we manage to have half the inflation rate that the previous government had, even in such challenging conditions. And according to the IMF, not according to the government, the measures applied by this government are third in Europe in terms of percentage of GDP, compared to all countries. Back then, we were at the bottom, now we are in the top three and that is an empirical difference,” said PM Mickoski at the official opening of a reconstructed wing of the “September 8th” hospital.
