Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski unveiled Sunday a monument honoring Macedonian fighters from Tuminec, Prespa, and Mala Prespa in Albania. In a social media post, Mickoski says what the country needs now more than anything else is unity over the national interests and the future.
“Today, Macedonia needs unification more than anything. Let us unite around national interests. Around the future of our children. Around respect for our own history and the dignity of the people. Our ancestors were not divided when they defended freedom. They did not ask who came from where, nor who belonged to whom. They all stood under one name – Macedonia,” Mickoski pointed out.
The Macedonians in Albania, the Prime Minister stressed, are an inseparable part of the Macedonian national fabric.
“Your perseverance over the decades is a feat worthy of respect. You preserved the Macedonian name, language, tradition and spirit even when it was most difficult. And that is why today I want to send a clear message: The Motherland will not forget you. Macedonia stands with its people wherever they are, with respect, care and sincere support,” said Prime Minister Mickoski.
Under the motto “Honor for the Heroes, Vow for the Future,” the Macedonians of Mala Prespa organized a special ceremony in Tuminec on Sunday to pay tribute to the heroes of this region.
Nine settlements are spread out on the shores of Lake Prespa, Tuminec being the second largest in the area.
